The 2014 Lamborghini Asterion LPI 910-4 is the first brand plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. Automobili Lamborghini has revealed the sports car powered by hybrid system at the prestigious 2014 Paris auto show. The Asterion LPI 910-4 is a concept car. Lamborghini`s engineers and designers combine advanced engineering solution, cutting-edge hybrid technology and innovative design. The “LP” in the name stands for mid-engine position (longitudinale posterior); “910” is for the total output and means that it is four-wheel drive. The name Lamborghini Asterion is also inspired by ancient mythology. This name was associated with the Minotaur – a powerful hybrid creature which was part human and part bull.

First Lamborghini PHEV

The power in the2014 Lamborghini Asterion comes from a 5,2 l V10 FSI naturally aspirated device coupled with 3 electric motors. The hybrid system is capable of 669 kW/910 hp. The petrol engine provides an output of 449 kW (610 hp) with 560 Nm of torque. The three electric motors add 220 kW (300 hp) more. The superior power results in amazing accelerating results – 0-100 km/h in 3.0 sec. The maximum speed is 200 mph (320 km/h).

The plug-in hybrid architecture is mated to a fast shifting 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The propulsion system allows the sports car two settings: a combined action of the V10 engine and the electric motors or pure electric drive mode. The Lamborghini Asterion runs up to 50 km with electric power only. The supercar accelerates to 125 km/h (78 mph) when using the power from the motors.

2014 Lamborghini Asterion Design

The stunning design evokes the feeling of luxury cruising, thrilling performance and uniqueness. The Blue Elektra exterior color of the Lamborghini Asterion accentuates the exceptional appearance of the car. Designers in Lamborghini Centro Stile have preferred smooth, elegant curves to sharp edges. This unexpected styling idea is the major difference between the concept car and the existing Lamborghini models. The construction is based on a lightweight carbon fiber chassis.

The large doors that open outwards remind the Lamborghini unmistakable style. Doors are decorated with the Italian flag and an image of a Raging Bull. The muscular appearance of the car is highlighted by Pirelli tires and rims in carbon components.

The interior looks really innovative with 2 comfortable seats positioned higher than those in existing models. The interior is available in ivory and brown leather. In contrast, there is a variety of aluminium, carbon fibre and titanium elements. The driver and the passengers can navigate functions such as air conditioning by using a tablet.
